Come Celebrate With Me: China Book Release Parties

On January 4th and 5th, I am throwing events in Bemidji and the Twin Cities to announce (and demonstrate) my book about my year in China. Perhaps you’d like an event in your town?

If you’ve read  this blog, you may have noticed the fourth item down on the right hand sidebar. It joyously announces how donors helped my China book project reach its financial goal. Indeed, it was thrilling to have friends and family help out.

Now I just had to finish the thing.

I came home from China in July 2011 with 70 articles about my year ranging from an interview with a homeless person to an experience visiting a Chinese factory to pieces about doing martial arts in the mountains of rural China to a story about going on a date with a local woman.

Naturally, bringing together all this material was challenging, but I found the thread to tie it all together. I then arranged all the articles like a puzzle, sifted through the roughly 140,000 words, and have come up with a final product that I think is fun, intriguing, and unique. The product is called: Life Learned Abroad: Lessons on Humanity from China

More than just creating a book with varied subject matter, I also had the opportunity to incorporate the different styles of media employed when originally creating these pieces. Thus, a version of this book will be an interactive eBook that will be best read on a computer or tablet. While doing so, you’ll encounter footage that I took in China to go along with the particular story. The photos will be color. And finally, you’ll be able to comment–share about your own experiences traveling, ask me questions about my own, and take part in the discussions that come up along the way.

At the events, there’ll be hor d’oeuvres and beverages:)  I’ll read a section and demonstrate the interactive eBook. Most important though, through these events, and this entire book effort, I’m excited to show you in the Area Voices community that your support has meant a lot. Obviously, without people listening and caring, this book wouldn’t have been created.

RSVP for the Bemidji event on January 4th at the Bemidji Library.

RSVP for the Minneapolis event on January 5th at the Joule Network.

If you’re interested in having me come to your town, or if you have questions about the events, let me know.

I hope to see all down the road.

I hope you get to enjoy my book.

What say you?
