I remember once flying over Iowa and looking down to see a small town below. It was a cluster of cars, buildings, and asphalt. To me it was small, and we’d passed over a couple like it already. A cluster here, a cluster there. But I knew, on the ground, things were different.
It was an interesting clash to realize that to the people down there, this cluster wasn’t small at all. It was where they went to work, school, and church. It was the friendships they shared, the errands to run, the bars to unwind in.
It’s for this reason, #32 on this list of 100 awesome shots from an airplane is my favorite. It’s such a remote little community, yet to them it’s as big as life.
